AS Roma vs Manchester United – Confirmed Starting Lineups

AS Roma Starting XI: Mirante, Karsdorp, Smalling, Ibanez, Bruno Peres, Cristante, Mancini, Pedro, Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan, Dzeko.

Substitutes: Cievo, Zalewski, Santon, Mayoral, Boer, Fuzato, Darboe, Kumbulla, Bove.

Manchester United Starting XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw; Van de Beek, Fred; Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Pogba; Cavani

In the first leg of their encounter, Manchester United came from behind to destroy Roma and effectively thrashed them with the final score of 6-2.

Although the final score of 6-2 was not enough to out shine the United’s infamous 7-1 Champions League thrashing of the same opponents back in 2007 – a game in which current boss Ole Gunnar was a substitute. Anyways, the margin of victory was as impressive as their second-half display.

Europa League : Roma vs Manchester United Match Preview-Match Details-Team News

With a four-goal deficit to make up, it will be very difficult for AS Roma to make a comeback. Although it is definitely not impossible, as they have done this type of task before. In 2018, they defeated Barcelona in a shocking match of UEFA Champions League. So they will be looking to repeat that performance against Manchester United and might overturn the result.

Important News

It was a difficult week for both the teams with some shocking decisions taking place.

The match between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford was postponed due to fan protests in the stadium. The match will now be played on May 13. The game was postponed after hundreds of fans broke into Old Trafford in protest at the club’s owners the Glazer family. The protestors were angry at the Glazers’ involvement in the European Super League plan. The crowd damaged the Old Trafford pitch and set off flares, while police were peppered with missiles outside the stadium.

AS Roma has announced that Jose Mourinho will take over as manager of Roma next season. Mourinho was sacked by English side Tottenham in April after 17 months and has not spent more than two and a half seasons in a job since leaving Real Madrid in 2013. He will be having a three-year contract at Roma.

AS Roma Squad Updates

Coach Paulo Fonseca has a number of pressing injury concerns which have hampered his preparations ahead of the clash against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League semi-final second leg. As many as nine first-team players will be unavailable due to various injury-related issues.

Pau Lopez (shoulder), Leonardo Spinazzola (hamstring) and Jordan Veretout (muscle injury) all pulled up in the first half last week and are not available for second leg. Marash Kumbulla (hip), Riccardo Calafiori (muscle injury), Amadou Diawara (groin), Carles Perez (hamstring), Stephan El Shaarawy (knock) and Pedro (hamstring) are also sidelined due to their respective injuries.

The only good news for Roma is that Gianluca Mancini is available after serving his one-match ban last week in the first leg against Manchester United.

Manchester United Squad Updates

Unlike in the AS Roma dugout, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer do not have any fitness issues to go ahead to Stadio Olimpico for the UEFA Europa League semi-final second leg. Only three first-team players will be unavailable for selection, with Phil Jones and Anthony Martial recuperating from their respective knee injuries. Daniel James has been excluded from the squad due to a minor injury.
