There is a massive panic among social media users that Facebook, WhatsApp And Twitter will be banned in the country. A dispute has been going on between the Indian Government and Twitter. If Twitter fails to meet the IT guidelines provided by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, it is highly likely that the government will ban the application and the portal completely in the country. This controversy has given rise to an Indian App known as KOO.

Koo App is an alternative app to Twitter, built for Indians in order to be able to share their views using Indian languages. Koo has emerged as India’s newest microblogging site for sharing personal updates and opinions. It is acting like a Twitter counterpart for Indians. The discussions on this site revolve around trending topics and themes.

Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidwatka are the co-founders of KOO App. Radhakrishna had also founded online cab booking service TaxiForSure, which was subsequently sold to Ola Cabs. Bombinate Technologies Pvt Ltd is the parent company of KOO. It has launched the Indian version of Quora called Vokal.

KOO app was launched in early 2020 but it came under limelight when it won the government’s Atmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge. The app, along with other India-made apps like Zoho and Chingari — the local version of TikTok, won the challenge. It has also gained popularity after Indian Government banned several Chinese Apps and promoted Made In India theme. KOO app was also mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat address.

Kangana Ranaut’s Twitter account was suspended permanently for violating Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy of the micro-blogging site. The reason behind the suspension was the actor’s vitriolic comments on the post-poll violence in West Bengal, which sounded like a call to violence.

After her account was suspended, Kangana Ranaut joined the Indian alternative of Twitter, KOO App. The founders of KOO App gave a warm welcome to Kangana Ranaut.

The following big personalities have already made accounts on KOO App :

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Law & IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, MP Tejasvi Surya and Shobha Karandlaje, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Isha Foundation’s Jaggi Vasudev, Former cricketers Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble .
