Cricket cannot be really considered as a global sport. The maximum audience of cricket is from Asia only. Cricket has not managed to enter most of the countries of this world like other games. There are only a few nations that play Cricket at international level as compared to other popular sports like Football, Athletics, Boxing, etc. Some big nations like USA, Japan, China, Russia, Germany are not at all interested in this sport.
Cricket is played in around 105 countries across the world but if you are a regular follower then you surely know that only some teams have Test status. ICC World Cup features only around 10-12 teams. So you can understand that if only 10 nations are there in the world cup then its scope is too small for global games like Olympics.
There is no doubt that cricket is a much loved sport and has a global fan following but then also it has failed to earn a place in those countries who are the dominating teams in the Olympics. Mostly the host nations are non-cricketing countries and therefore they are not interested in the inclusion of cricket in Olympics at all.

There is always a busy cricket calendar. The rise of T20 leagues across the world has also increased the number of tournaments in a year. So, it would be hard to arrange a proper time for Olympics.
The length of cricket games is very long. A game take too much time to finish. This time factor makes it very difficult to be conducted on a large-scale at the Olympics. The 50 overs match is the standard format of cricket which almost takes around 8 hours. To allot this much time to a single match would be unfeasible in Olympics. The new format of T-20 cricket is gaining popularity and this might solve the above problem. Long matches that require a lot of technical assistance and have very few interested countries in viewing the sport are not a great addition to any event.
