On September 2nd, England Cricket Board announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The squad is stacked up with world class cricketers. However, there have been one omission which has surprised everyone. We will talk about it later in the article. After the retirement of Eoin Morgan, this will be first ICC tournament for newly-appointed skipper Jos Buttler. England will enter the T20 World Cup as one of the favorites. England will be eying to clinch their second T20 World Cup trophy. Let’s take a look at England T20 World Cup 2022 Squad Analysis and Probable Playing XI.

The major takeaway of England T20 World Cup squad is that opener Jason Roy has been dropped. Roy was also a flop in the T20 World Cup 2021. In 2022, Roy has been able to score only 206 runs in 11 T20Is, at a meagre average of 18.72 and an under-par strike-rate of 104.4. He is clearly struggling to score runs in both the white-ball formats.

England have plenty of options in the top of the order and therefore it was not quite difficult for the selectors to drop Roy.

The two veteran pace duo have returned to the World Cup squad despite injury concerns. However, Jofra Archer will be unavailable. The return of Mark Wood and Chris Woakes will provide some much-needed control and swing up front.

England have stuck to their policy of packing their squad with players who contribute in all three facets of the game. Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Chris Woakes, David Willey and Liam Livingstone are all players who are able to perform with both the bat and the ball. Ben Stokes missed the last T20 World Cup as it was his own decision. His presence in the team will surely boost the chances of winning.

The major setback for England squad is that Jonathan Bairstow has been ruled out of the rest of the summer and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Initially, the selectors named him in the England’s squad for T20 World Cup 2022. But after some time, the player himself announced that he sustained a lower limb injury in a freak accident whilst playing golf on Friday in Leeds.

Batsman Alex Hales has been included in England’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad as a replacement for Jonathan Bairstow. Hales last appearance for England came in March 2019. The player has also been included in the team for the tour of Pakistan.
