Las Vegas | A global artificial intelligence (AI) event on machine learning, automation, robotics and outer space kicked off here on Tuesday, with some of the world’s most advanced robots introduced. The four-day AI event named “re: MARS,” organized by U.S. tech giant Amazon, has drawn participants from 46 countries such as China, Canada, Australia and Germany.
Among various kinds of robots on display at the event’s opening session were three by U.S. engineering and robotics design company Boston Dynamics. Spot, a small four-legged robot that handles objects, climbs stairs and operates in offices, homes and outdoors, led participants to the event’s welcome reception. The other two are Handle, mobile box handling robots for logistics, and Atlas, one of the world’s most dynamic humanoid robots.
U.S. entertainment conglomerate Disney also unveiled at the opening session a video of its humanoid robot capable of performing stunts. “We set out to bring together innovative minds from diverse backgrounds — from business leaders to technical builders to startup founders, venture capitalists, artists, astronauts and more,” Dave Limp, senior vice president of Devices and Services at Amazon, said at the opening session.
“Our goal is to bring together the right content, learning opportunities, and leaders to help you disrupt and innovate faster — to combine the latest in forward-looking science with practical applications that will initiate change today,” Limp said.
“We believe that together we can solve some of the world’s most interesting and challenging problems using AI,” he said. More than 100 sessions will be held during the June 4-7 event at the ARIA Resort in Las Vegas.
Leading experts across science, academia, and business are expected to share the latest research and scientific advancements, industry innovation, and their perspective on how these domains will evolve.
