On Tuesday the FC Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong celebrates his 23rd birthday. La liga also wished him by posting a picture on their social media account.
Born on 12 May 1997 in Arkel (Netherlands), Frenkie de Jong is one of the Europe’s most promising midfield talents. At just 21 years of age, he joined FC Barcelona after proving himself as a polyvalent player with an excellent reading of the game and ability to provide the killer pass.
The Dutchman started out in the Willem II academy, but after just one year in Tiburg he caught the eye of Ajax, who signed him to the club in 2015. However, he was loaned back from Amsterdam to his former team to ensure he got enough playing time to fully develop as a player. De Jong then returned to Ajax to lead its reserve team, Jong Ajax, in the Jupiler League.
Frenkie de Jong was a big star in the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Club. The midfielder’s performance drew rave reviews, as FC Barcelona went on to lift their first trophy of the season and the 31st Copa in club history.
The Dutch midfielder took part in all four Barça goals, assisting Griezmann from the right for the opener. Shortly after, he scored to make it 0-2, before assisting Leo Messi (0-3) and participating at the start of the play which ended with the fourth goal. De Jong completed 67 passes to his teammates and four dribbles.
