Lucknow Super Giants performance in IPL 2023 Mega Auction
Sanjiv Goenka has returned in Indian Premier League with LSG. He has the experience of managing Rising Pune Supergiant(s) in 2016 and 2017. Therefore LSG already have their plans in place after the experience gained in their two-year stint. LSG’s final squad proves that their bidding seemed to have gone according to their plans.
Lucknow is the only team who has exhausted their full purse amount at the IPL 2022 mega auction. LSG entered the mega auction with an amount of INR 59.98 crore. Prior to that, they already signed Indian batsman KL Rahul (INR 17 crore), Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis (INR 9.2 crore) and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi (INR 4 crore) in the draft.
Lucknow Supergiants spend a whooping Rs 10 crore to pick fast bowler Avesh Khan. This move by LSG made Avesh the most expensive uncapped player of the auction. IPL 2023 : Lucknow Super Giants Squad Analysis
Batsmen :
LSG have one of the most strong opening in IPL 2022. They have experienced and explosive batsman at both ends of the crease – KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. The area of concern is number 3 spot. Lucknow has picked Manish Pandey for this position. The former SRH batsman needs to adopt the T20 anchor role simultaneously because he has been criticized a lot for his slow strike rate. He also had a relatively poor IPL 2021.
Wicketkeepers :
It will be interesting to see as to who will keep the wickets for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022. KL Rahul and Quinton De Kock are the two possible options. It is likely that the South African batsman will be the wicketkeeper of the franchise because in the previous seasons also, KL Rahul preferred to be on the filed rather than keeping the wickets.
All-Rounders :
All-Rounders are the most important part of Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2022 squad. The presence of a lot of all-rounders have increased the depth in their batting unit. LSG playing XI 2022 will be stacked with all-rounders of literally all kinds. They have a pace-bowling all-rounder in Jason Holder, a batting all-rounder in Marcus Stoinis, a batting all-rounder with right-arm spin in Deepak Hooda and a left-arm spin bowling all-rounder in Krunal Pandya. They also have backup option in K Gowtham.
Bowlers :
Avesh Khan and Mark Wood will be leading the bowling attack of LSG. They both have the abilities to bowl at 145-150 kmph consistently. However, a little bit concern is there surrounding Mark Wood. The English player has a lack of playing experience in IPL. It would be unfavorable if Wood might not turn up to be the partner Lucknow were seeking for Avesh.
In the spin department, the responsibility will be on the shoulders of Ravi Bishnoi. LSG picked him as a draft player ahead of the auction. Except him, LSG have a lot of spin options in their all-rounders.
LSG IPL 2023 Squad Preview
Lucknow Super Giants has one of the thinnest squads in IPL 2022.They only have 21 players in the squad. They spend all the purse amount but still fall short of players. This could be a tricky situation for them considering these bio-bubble times.
In the end, there is no doubt that Lucknow Super Giants have been able to build a well-rounded first XI. LSG IPL 2022 squad comprises of several multi-utility players, but they also have a few obvious flaws.
