Manu Bhaker secures Olympic quota in 10m air pistol

New Delhi | Indian shooter Manu Bhaker clinched 2020 Tokyo Olympic quota place for India in the women’s 10m air pistol, finishing fourth at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Munich on Wednesday.Despite, Bhaker shot a score of 201.0 in the final, but missed out on the medal spots by a tenth of a point. She was overtaken by Anna Korakaki of Greece and Kim Minjung of Korea ahead in the final, but a top-four finish was enough to secure the quota place.

India still sit atop the medals tally in Munich with three gold medals, won by Apurvi Chandela, Saurabh Chaudhary and Rahi Sarnobat. Other Indian shooters Yashaswini Singh Deswal, shot 574 securing 22nd spot while Heena Sidhu scored 570 settling for 45th position in the finals.

On Tuesday, the 17-year-old Manu, missed the 25-metre sports pistol Olympic quota after her weapon malfunction. After Bhaker’s elimination, Sarnobat took the lead and held onto it until the end. So far, Indian shooters now have seven quotas in place for the 2020 Olympics.

Earlier, in September 2018, Chandela and Moudgil became the first Indian shooters to win quotas for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after they finished fourth and second respectively in the 10m air rifle event at the World Championships, while Abhishek and Divyansh earned their quota places at the Beijing World Cup last month.
