Real Madrid are not playing in their usual home ground all season because of an extensive renovation project underway at their historic stadium. While construction progresses, Real are playing their home games at Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium, the 6,000-seater home of their reserve team. On June 14th, 2020, Real Madrid moved from the Santiago Bernabeu to the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium as renovations continued on their traditional home ground.

The renovation of Santiago Bernabeu will cost the Spanish giants around £693.3 million in total. The work has coincided with the financial crisis precipitated by the Coronavirus pandemic, but given the absence of supporters it can be expedited with tighter deadlines and lower costs.

What will be the additions in the Santiago Bernabeu after the renovation ?

The Santiago Bernabeu renovation will see a roof, 360-degree video screen and a host of entertainment facilities introduced. The upgraded version of the much-loved ground will feature upgraded comfort, security, and technology.

Another major addition to the stadium will see a 360-degree video screen added which will stretch around the entire ground. A host of new shops, restaurants and a hotel will feature in the redeveloped complex, which will be surrounded by 65,000 square feet of gardens.

A report  also claimed that a casino will form part of the club’s new-look home stadium, in a move that they believe will generate a total of €120m in revenue.

Initially, Florentino Perez, the club’s president, wanted a hotel and shopping centre integrated into the designs, but those ideas didn’t pass. However, the refurbished venue will include restaurants and shops.
