Five star spinners who are going to shine in this season of IPL. In this article, we are going to talk about spin bowlers. Spinners are more vulnerable to go for runs in T2OIs but that also provides them with a greater opportunity to take wickets. They are the heart of any IPL team. They are the ones who pick important wickets to break the partnership. But it is quite shocking to know that the Purple cap in IPL history has been won only twice by spinners. The first one was won by Pragyan Ojha in 2010 and second was won by Imran Tahir in 2019. The pitches in UAE did provide some assistance to spinners. However, as IPL is making a comeback to Indian grounds, spinners are expected to go on an attacking mode towards the batsmen. Indian grounds are considered spinner friendly. Let’s take a look at five spinners who are going to shine in this season of IPL.

Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, without a doubt, is definitely one of the most dangerous spinner in the Indian Premier League currently and in the world as well. Since his debut  in IPL 2017, he has impressed everyone with his mastery, deception and variations. The leg-spinner has the ability to deceive batsmen even when they are trying to play him out safely. Rashid Khan is master of spin bowling and he seems to get better and better with every edition of the IPL.

It is not possible to talk about spinners in the IPL without mentioning Rajasthan’s Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg-spinner is all set to play the next season and has almost become a veteran of this league. Chahal is an experienced leg-spinner but has a horrific time in international cricket for past few time. IPL 2024 will be highly significant for him in order to make a comeback to India’s playing XI. Fans hope that Chahal, the wicket-taking bowler, turns up in IPL 2024 and again transform himself into a match-winner once again.

Cousin of Deepak Chahar, that was the initial identity of Rahul Chahar. Unlike Deepak, Rahul is a leg spinner who represents Rajasthan in domestic cricket. He is often known for his magical googlies. The younger Chahar gave up his studies very early to focus on his cricket. The 21-year-old is currently a skilful leg spinner for Punjab Kings. In his stint with Mumbai, Captain Rohit Sharma very well used Rahul Chahar in the powerplay overs and he has proved himself suitable to do the difficult job. He will be eager to replicate his success in IPL 2024. He can stop the run-flow in the middle overs and provided his team with crucial wickets.  He is one of the best findings of the IPL and would prove to be a key member in making Punjab Kings champions.

Varun Chakravarthy (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Varun had an amazing season when he took 17 wickets in 13 matches in UAE. The Tamil Nadu leg spinner has became an essential part of the team. He was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2020 to level up their spin bowling department and he stand up to his expectations. His fine performances earned him his maiden India call-up for the Australian Tour but he was unable to take the opportunity due to an injury. He was also picked for the T20I series against England but he again was not able to make it because he failed to clear the fitness test multiple times. Varun has a chance to again earn an opportunity to have a spot in the Indian team by having an even better IPL. With greater assistance from Indian pitches he can perform even better than the last season.

In comparison to the other names in the list, it is quite shocking to see his name. However he was quite confident in facing the star batsmen in IPL which won the youngster many admirers. He was one of the heroes in India’s U19 World Cup campaign in 2020, although the tournament ended in a shock defeat to Bangladesh in the final. Bishnoi was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. He was picked up by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2020 auction for INR 2 crore. The franchise showed faith in him and give him opportunity in all 14 games in the tournament. Bishnoi stood on to the expectations and picked up 12 wickets with an economy rate of 7.37 which are commendable figures for a debut bowler in the big league. Every time he came on to bowl, it looked like he was ready for the battle. In this season also he will be taking on superstars with his bowling skills.
