Why did Chris Gayle leave IPL 2021?

Chris Gayle decided to withdraw from the remaining part of IPL 2021 due to bio-bubble fatigue. His decision came on September 30. Apart from bubble fatigue, he needed to give himself a break before the T20 World Cup campaign for the West Indies. The Punjab King’s batsman was looking to mentally refresh himself ahead of the big tournament in next month.

Chris Gayle featured in only two out of PBKS’s three matches in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. In those 2 matches he managed to score just 1 and 14 runs. It is also assumed that Gayle was not happy with Punjab Kings management after they did not include him in the playing 11 on his 42nd birthday last month. The West Indian has not been able to make an impact for Punjab. In IPL 2021, Chris Gayle managed to score just 193 runs in 10 matches at an average of little over 20.

After his decision, Chris Gayle conveyed the following statement:

“I wish to mentally recharge and refresh myself. I want to refocus on helping the West Indies in the T20 World Cup and would like to take a break in Dubai. My thanks to the Punjab Kings for giving me the time off.”

The past year has been tough for Chris Gayle because he has been part of several bio-bubbles constantly since the resumption of cricket after the pandemic. He was part of the IPL 2020 bio-bubble with PBKS. After that he was included in West Indies squads for their home games against Sri Lanka and Australia. It was immediately followed by CPL 2021 bio-bubble. And now he has to move in IPL 2021 bio-bubble. Next month, he is all set to join West Indies squad for T20 World Cup 2021.
