The much anticipated transfer of Raphael Varane has been completed. The French defender has agreed to join Manchester United from Real Madrid for a deal worth an initial £34.2m. Varane will partner with captain Harry Maguire at the heart of the back line. The player believes that now is the time for a change of scenery in his career. He was keen to move to Premier League for a long time. However, he could have stayed at Real Madrid for one more season if the club wanted him to stay. Varane had just 12 months remained on his current contract with the Spainsh club. Varane rejected a new Real Madrid contract extension ahead of the new season and therefore the club was left with two choices : either to sell him now or lose him for free next year.
